Today I’m off to a ‘5 day silent retreat’ which is like a prolonged introspective structured exercise. They are becoming increasingly popular with people from all walks of life.
In the absence of external interaction, the thoughts and feelings that arise are amplified, detailed and cannot be pushed away. It’s a cocktail of joy, sadness, ease and hardship, like a mini-version of life. It’s always insightful, although I can never foretell how.
Currently I’m feeling a bit nervous. Also grateful to my colleagues and family who are covering. Let’s see what this alien environment will bring...
