Dealing with emotion is different to dealing with logic. For example, wanting a difficult one to go away may make it last longer.
And holding on to a pleasant one may make it go away.
Recognising that different rules apply can make me more at ease when logical interventions don’t work and more willing to try out experiential techniques such as mindfulness, Wim Hof and hypnotherapy.
