Diary #131 Let's talk Motivation

Speaking with a friend who studies Motivation in Sports Psychology, I realise that trying to simply be [or make my 12yrs old son be] ‘motivated’ is quite a primitive approach.

Awareness of the type and qualities of motivation is very important, such as whether it is ‘stick or carrot’. For example, I may be motivated to close a sale to make my boss happy, to make more money and to make my client successful.  Now I’m not comfortable with sales, so whilst all are relevant, tapping into the latter can make me more effective.

I am realising that skilful motivation is not just about ‘how do I get myself do it’ but ‘how to in the most effective way’.

Super interesting stuff and so much more to discover. Any thoughts or tips would be really welcome.
