Diary #198 Callous the Mind

Do you find that it is easier to be more present (less distracted) when doing new things?

For example, moving to a new place, first day at a job, trying a new meal? Occasionally, time even seems to slow down, doesn’t it?

These days I’m quite caught up in my thoughts and I have decided to play with the concept of novelty, to help me be more present in my day-to-day.

Specifically, I am experimenting with ‘micro-dosing’: small effortless doses of novel mini-actions, producing spikes of presence scattered through-out the day. For example, just before writing this I washed my eyes with my left hand. Other examples can be to sit at different spot on the sofa, or cook a new recipe.

Let’s see if these persistent nagging thoughts loosen their grip...
