Diary #246 Mindfully Angry

"Don't £$W^%S@ do it!

vs "I would highly recommend you don't do it."

Which of the two is better, calm or angry?

Well, if I want to stop my kid from putting his fingers in the electric socket then angry is the way.  But 'angry' is not 'mindful' you may say.

In my view one has nothing to do with the other. I can do angry, happy, calm, bitter, jealous… I can express any emotion. Being mindful is when I do so intentionally.

Infact, mindfulness is often referred to as a practice of responding rather than reacting. Why 'practice'? Because that's what it takes, and like with any activity, using well researched and established techniques improves skill level and rate of success.
