Have you ever noticed how something can seem impossible one moment and totally doable the next - even though nothing has changed? It could be work, relationships - whatever.
Here is an example I’m living: after two years off, I’m contemplating starting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu again. I can swing between knowing it’s reckless and knowing it’s the perfect time.
So why the difference? It has to do with how pleasant or unpleasant I feel at any given moment. If unpleasant, then my mind creates a "too old, too risky, no time..." story. If pleasant, then the story is "time to get into shape, how amazing to compete again...".
In mindfulness lingo this is called ‘feeling tone’ and it influences every assessment made. Pleasant vs unpleasant can even blur right vs wrong - think of relationships for example. Knowing this can help navigate decision making more effectively.
